Dedicated to Excellence

Our Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists meet today's growing demands through a collaborative approach to quality patient care.

The U-M Medical School Department of Anesthesiology provides anesthesia services for some of the most complex patients and innovative procedures in the country. The department has been successful in facilitating this by using a collaborative and cohesive Anesthesia Care Team Model consisting of anesthesiologists, fellows, residents, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) and anesthesia technicians. Our objective is to provide high quality, safe, and cost-effective patient-centered care.

The expertise and versatility of the CRNA have allowed the department to meet the growing demands for anesthesia services, specifically in Non-Operating Room Anesthesia (NORA) settings. There are more than 150 CRNAs practicing at U-M Hospitals and Health Systems providing anesthesia care across all facilities. CRNAs provide anesthesia care for all age groups in a variety of surgical and procedural settings.

The CRNAs enjoy being part of a large academic center that values education. The department supports multiple opportunities to facilitate lifelong learning including conferences, seminars, and classes that contribute to our continuing education. We partner with the University of Michigan-Flint graduate program of nurse anesthesia to provide interactive, hands-on training for future CRNAs. Many of our staff are involved in professional organizations, which further catalyzes professional growth inside and outside the hospital setting. The department is fortunate to have a diverse CRNA group with a full breadth of experience and knowledge including persons involved in active military deployment, mission work, and philanthropy.

We are proud to work alongside our colleagues in anesthesiology to provide the most comprehensive anesthetic care to every patient. It is our goal to enrich the Anesthesia Care Team model while providing educational resources to promote and enhance professional growth.
