Research

Dr. John Younger, M.D., Associate Chair for Research

The Department of Emergency Medicine is home to a nationally recognized research program in basic, translational, clinical, and policy aspects of emergency medicine. Our department has a long tradition of research support from the federal government (including the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Science Foundation), numerous foundations, and industry.  Likewise, our faculty play a very active role in directing the national research agenda related to care of acutely ill and injured patients through service on national committees and peer review.

Our goals are these:

  • To conduct research that will improve the care of our patients
  • To sustain an environment in which our faculty can make high impact contributions to their field
  • To recruit and train the next generation of investigators in emergency medicine through training programs for undergraduate, medical student, graduate student, resident, fellow, and post-doctoral scientists.
  • To extend national research service and leadership through activities with professional organizations, academic groups and governmental groups.
