Since 1986, the Advanced Research Training in Otolaryngology Program has provided research training in otolaryngology-related disciplines for medical students, resident physicians and post-residency fellows to develop the next generation of clinician-scientists. Research mentors are part of our internationally-recognized faculty consisting of both basic and clinical researchers in a broad variety of disciplines. Many mentors are themselves accomplished clinician-scientists who are in demand as research mentors.
Physicians clinically trained in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery are those most likely to undertake research that advances the care of patients with hearing loss, head and neck cancer, vocal disorders and sleep disorders to name a few.

To this end, ARTOP provides support for:
- Pre-Doctoral Students: one year of training for one student pursuing a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree focused on otolaryngology related research
- Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Residents: eighteen months of training for one otolaryngology-head and neck surgery resident trainee per year
- Post-Residency Otolaryngologist: one year of training for one post-residency fellow
