Family Medicine - Celebrating 35 Years!

Over the past 35 years, the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Michigan has become a national leader in patient care, education, and research.

On April 26th the Department celebrated its 35th Anniversary with a weekend of festivities planned to honor and thank everyone who has taken part in the growth and success of family medicine at the University of Michigan. The weekend kicked off with a residency alumni reunion that reconnected residents from across the country. A Department Open House in our new office space and a special donor dialogue dinner were held in addition to a large reception.

Highlights of the reception included remarks from the Department’s three leaders, Terence C. Davies, M.D., Thomas L. Schwenk, M.D., professor emeritus, and Philip Zazove, M.D., the George A. Dean, M.D. Chair of Family Medicine; the reuniting of the four members of the first residency class and the four original faculty members; the announcement of the Terence C. Davies, M.D. Lectureship in Medical Education; and the presentation of a gift to Dr. Davies in recognition for his tremendous work as founding chair.

The celebration gathered guests near and far – some traveling from as far away as Japan – in honor of this significant milestone in the Department's history.
