Cardiothoracic Fellowship

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology (ACTA) Fellowship training program. The ACTA Fellowship is devoted to advanced training in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of adult patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery and related invasive procedures. 

The training includes experience in providing anesthesia for cardiac, non-cardiac thoracic, and intrathoracic vascular surgical procedures. In addition, it includes anesthesia for non-operative diagnostic and interventional cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures outside the operating room.

Application Process

The ACTA Fellowship at the University of Michigan is designed to provide sophisticated training in the discipline following completion of a cardiothoracic anesthesiology training program. The following criteria is used for selection of candidates to receive interviews for the position:

  • Satisfactory or anticipated completion of an ACGME anesthesiology residency program in the U.S.
  • Certification or anticipation of eligibility for the American Board of Anesthesiology Exam
  • Completion of a fellowship application though the San Francisco Match's Central Application Service
