U-M Anesthesiology Ranks #1 in National Institute of Health Funding

Recent data released by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) indicate that the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan is number one in the country for NIH funding. Excluding the large NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award grant that is associated with the department, U-M Anesthesiology is still ranked number six, an all-time high for research funding at the university.

“We are gratified to see that our research efforts have resulted in increased NIH funding and ranking,” says Dr. George Mashour, senior associate chair for research in the Department of Anesthesiology. “Our investigators have taken their research to the next level, which has resulted in a number of major grant awards in the past year.”

The department’s consistent ranking in the top 10 for NIH funding further exemplifies its ongoing dedication to making substantial contributions to scientific understanding and clinical practice.
