Congratulations to the 29 members of the 2021 University of Michigan Medical School Anesthesiology Residency Class!
The department hosted a virtual celebration for graduates and their families on Saturday, June 19. George A. Mashour, M.D., Ph.D., chair and the Robert B. Sweet Professor of Anesthesiology, welcomed guests to the event and expressed his appreciation for the Class of 2021.
"What these residents have done, especially over the past 15-16 months, has been truly remarkable. I’ve said it before, but our anesthesiology residents have trained in unprecedented times, and they have served in unprecedented ways — truly frontline, truly heroic, and just exceptional service to the many sick and vulnerable patients that have been affected during this COVID-19 pandemic," Mashour said. "We owe you a major debt of gratitude, and I just want to express my sincere appreciation for all of your efforts."
Norah Naughton, M.D., MBA, the Georgine M. Steude Professor of Anesthesiology Education, added her thanks and reminded graduates that they will always have a home at Michigan.
"I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations and sincere gratitude to all of our 2021 graduates. I share with everyone that’s here today at our ceremony the immense pride that we have for all of you and for all that you have accomplished," she said. "And while you may be leaving the residency program soon, you are absolutely staying in our hearts forever and you have become, of course, part of the Michigan family."
The ceremony included recorded messages from department faculty and staff — as well as a special appearance from the Ether Bunny — and the announcement of three individual awards:
- Academic Resident of the Year: Daniel Meister, M.D.
- Kevin K. Tremper Resident of the Year: John Bryant, M.D.
- Faculty of the Year: Kimberly Burcar, M.D.
Congratulations to our graduates, and remember: Wherever you go — Go Blue!
