ASE Mission Statement

Access, Success and Engagement in CMB

A goal of the CMB program is to build and maintain a community where all students, regardless of their backgrounds and identities, have the support necessary to succeed in their graduate studies. To achieve this goal, we aim to actively engage with CMB members and university leadership to promote opportunities and resources, and to recruit, support and retain students.

CMB pledges to consciously develop policies and practices to ensure that all members (students, faculty and staff) feel that they belong, have equal access to opportunities and resources, can express their opinions freely, and are fully engaged in the program. To this end, CMB commits to the following goals:

  • Expanding the representation of students and faculty within the CMB community by seeking out and supporting CMB community members from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Actively challenging and responding to bias, discrimination, and harassment.
  • Developing and maintaining a community where everyone is included and valued, and increasing accessibility to opportunities and resources for all CMB members.

Discrimination and harassment are contrary to the standards and values of CMB and the University of Michigan communities. Discrimination or harassment in any form, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, ability, religion, height, weight, or veteran’s status, will not be tolerated.

CMB ASE Task Force

The CMB Access, Success and Engagement Task Force (ASE) was formed as a resource to advocate for CMB students, faculty, and staff. To fulfill the program’s mission, the CMB ASE Task Force will interact closely with all members of the CMB community, gather and disseminate information, collaboratively identify issues, and advise CMB leadership on programs, initiatives and solutions to address these issues.
