"Integrating Imaging Phenotype with Genomics for Cancer: Case studies in Drug Discovery, Pathology Informatics, and Radiomics"

Abstract

The availability of linked tumor imaging data (via histopathology and radiology) as well as companion genomics presents an enormous opportunity for integrative decision making, in addition to providing insights into tumor biology. Using public domain imaging and genomics data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), we will present case studies of data analyses in this intersection, across biological scale, using high grade brain tumors (GB: glioblastoma) as an example. Such investigations draw from a combination of image analysis and bioinformatics approaches to identify, for example, (i) the molecular correlates of histological hallmarks of disease, and (ii) radiological-surrogates of tumor immune activity. Additionally, we will also draw on imaging data from high content screening experiments to demonstrate a workflow for the prioritization of combinatorial therapies for triple negative breast cancer. We will conclude with some potential directions for future investigation.
