Areas of Interest

My research is currently focused on identifying and analyzing short tandem repeats in samples from patients with diseases known to be caused by short tandem repeat expansion as well as in ataxia patients who we suspect have unknown expansions. This is done using Oxford Nanopore Technology and the work I will do will involve writing a processing and analysis pipelines to determine the lengths of the given STR expansions, design guide RNAs for the experiments, and help with analysis to phase STRs to haplotypes. I am also involved in research of the influence of mobile elements on chromatin structure also using Nanopore.
