This year, our organization is continuing its commitment to creating the safest possible environment for patients, families, and employees by requiring faculty, staff, and trainees to receive an influenza vaccination.

The information below will be helpful to inform you on where to obtain a flu shot and their due dates.  If you choose to use a local pharmacy or your private physician’s office please be prepared to send documentation to [email protected], if you run into issues with this plan please work with Amy Koger to assist you. Please let Mary Freer know if you have any questions or concerns.

This year, our organization is continuing its commitment to creating the safest possible environment for patients, families, and employees by requiring faculty, staff, and trainees to receive an influenza vaccination.

Under the organization's influenza vaccination policy, faculty, staff, students and volunteers must receive their annual vaccine by Tuesday, December 1, 2020, or receive an approved exemption or declination. This include all employees who may be working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those with an approved exemption or declination will be required to wear a mask in patient care areas for the entire flu season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to alter our work environments, Occupational Health Services OHS) will be modifying the distribution of this year's flu vaccine. There will be many opportunities to get your flu shot at Michigan Medicine, including free flu clinics across the medical campus. Vaccines are also available at Occupational Health Services in the Med Inn Building. Make sure to have your ID badge when you arrive and you'll receive a sticker for your ID badge after getting the shot.

OHS is committed to providing resources in a safe manner that provides adequate social distancing and reduces large gatherings. New this year, registration will be required for all flu shot clinics. A full list of clinic dates and links to register for each are available here.

Areas with clinical unit flu liaisons are strongly encouraged to utilize these staff members to help provide the vaccine to staff.

If you receive your flu shot at your doctor's office, pharmacy or any other location outside of the OHS flu clinics, documentation must be provided, with the your name and UMID number on it, and sent directly to OHS via email to [email protected]. Your department's compliance contact will give you a sticker for your ID badge.

Later this year, the Infection Prevention and Epidemiology team will provide notification on the official start of the flu season. Those employees who have not been vaccinated, but have an approved exemption or declination will be required to wear a mask in patient care areas for the entire flu season, including if masks are no longer required due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you have a religious belief or medical condition that prevents you from receiving the flu vaccine, you may submit an exemption form to OHS for review by Sunday, November 1, 2020.  These requests are annual, and must be re-submitted each year for approval.
