Group Including DCMB Researchers Looks at Anti-anaerobic Antibiotics Associated with Increased Patient Mortality

U-M researchers with the Weil Institute for Critical Care Research looked into a common clinical practice which may be inadvertently harming patients.

A recent study published in the European Respiratory Journal  shows early treatment with specific antibiotics depletes the body of gut anaerobes that protect against pneumonia, organ failure, and mortality. CCMB affiliated faculty, Michael Sjoding and Robert Woods, were among the authors of this important research.
