Areas of Interest

The Walter group explores the world of non-protein coding RNAs such as ribozymes, riboswitches, microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) as well as the processes of pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA transcription, translation, gene regulation and lncRNA-mediated epigenomics, using single-molecule fluorescence and molecular dynamics simulation tools. In addition, we use Monte-Carlo simulation, bioinformatics and systems biology tools to understand the function of non-coding RNAs in the context of the cell, leading to highly interdisciplinary student training at the interface of Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Bioinformatics and Mathematics.
