I work on developing bioinformatics tools to analyze Copy Number Variations (CNV) of the genome in cancer. We have developed CNVEX, a pipeline for a complete CNV analysis including data de-noising, data normalization, genome segmentation and identification of both somatic and germline CNVs. To improve the tool furthermore, we are developing on a statistical method to improve the noise to signal ratio for the tumor samples with low purity (<~10%) in order for the CNVEX to be able to identify the CNV events in the sample. These steps will help with the final goal of the project which would be to develop a method to identify genomic loci under the positive selection for genome rearrangements in cancer.
