Areas of Interest
During her undergraduate and graduate research studies, Shuai has primarily worked as a bench-work biologist. Her goal has been to understand and solve basic biological and medical problems, such as protein structures and drug mechanisms, using biochemical, pharmacological, and pathological methods. She has worked in Dr. Nouri Neamati’s lab on projects to discover novel anti-cancer compounds that will be optimized for clinical trials in cancer patients. Several compound candidates have been identified in their cell-based assays and animal studies will be conducted in the future. She has been using a special RNA-sequencing technique, Bru-seq, to determine the transcriptome profiles of the compounds, and utilizing this information to generate hypotheses that could explain their mechanisms of action.
