Biography

Li-Jyun Syu, Ph.D. is an Assistant Research Scientist in Department of Dermatology and a member of the Dlugosz Lab in our Skin Cancer Biology Research Program. Her research is focused upon understanding the molecular basis of human polyomaviruses-associated hair follicle disorder (Trichodysplasia Spinulosa) and Merkel cell carcinoma.

Dr. Syu received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Michigan State University in 1994. She received postdoctoral training in the Department of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan (1994-2000); Department of Signal Transduction and Cell Biology at Warner-Lambert Company (Pfizer) (1994-2000); and the Department of Dermatology at the University of Michigan (2006-2009). Dr. Syu worked as a Research Associate in Dr. Dervla Mallerick's lab in the U-M Department of Pathology, before joining Dr. Andrzej Dlugosz's lab in the U-M Department of Dermatology where she held a Research Lab Specialist position prior to joining the dermatology research faculty in 2021.
