About Wilderness Medicine

The goal of Wilderness Medicine is to be an academic resource for healthcare providers at all levels who spend time in and have a passion for the great outdoors.  We aim to educate students, healthcare providers and the public to help victims and patients who are in a Wilderness or Austere environment.  With growing numbers of people participating in outdoor activities, especially in remote places, there is a growing need for a special skill set that allows providers to initiate and implement care with limited resource.

We offer educational opportunities in the following manner:

  • Lectures
  • Medical student elective
  • Advanced Wilderness Life Support (AWLS) certification
  • Research
