The keynote speaker this year is Dr. Elizabeth Alpern, Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine, Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Alpern graduated from UM Medical School in 1992 and is both a pediatric emergency physician and clinical epidemiologist with particular interests and experience in the use of large databases within a research network and in improving the quality of care delivered to children in the ED setting.  She has been a member of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) since 2001 and is PI for an AHRQ funded project to develop a multicenter PECARN Emergency Care Registry.  She also has an ongoing interest in the epidemiology of emergent presentations of infectious disease including sepsis and soft tissue infections and is PI of an NIH funded study to develop a prediction model of risk of sepsis in children.
