What made you choose EM as your specialty? I wanted to learn how to manage medical emergencies better.
How can EM help Ghana? Before emergency medicine started in Ghana, all emergency departments were run by general nurses, medical assistants and doctors who were not specifically trained in handling medical emergencies. The core staffing included house officers with very little experience as doctors. The lack of specialty-trained personnel contributed to increased morbidity and mortality. I believe that the establishment of Ghanaian EM is a milestone towards resolving this situation and improving overall healthcare delivery.
