Dr. Jennifer Jachowski, a pediatric emergency medicine fellow, has received a grant from the UM Cardiovascular Center to examine new ways of measuring blood flow in critically ill children and adults. The project will study the accuracy of UM-designed experimental hardware and software by comparing measures of blood flow in healthy patients measured by ultrasound and by MRI. This is the first in what will be a series of projects in adults in children with the long term aim of establishing a bedside ultrasound tool to monitor the effectiveness of treatment strategies in critically ill and injured patients. The work is a collaboration between Dr. Jachowski and Drs. Oliver Kripfgans and Dharshan Vummidi in Radiology.
