Biography

Dr. O'Brien was named emeritus faculty in 2019. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School (1979) and one of the first four Department of Family Medicine residency graduates in 1982.  He spent his entire career with the U-M Department of Family Medicine, teaching clinical medicine and providing primary care for the residents of Chelsea and surrounding communities. For 38 years, he delivered babies at U-M Hospital.  He has served in several leadership positions at both Chelsea and U-M Hospitals, including Residency Program Director for 16 years. His honors include Educator of the Year from the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians.  Dr. O’Brien feels honored to have shared in the lives of so many patients and families.
