Julie Blaszczak, M.D., HOIII and co-chief resident, was selected as a winner of the 2018 AAFP Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education.

This prestigious award is presented to twelve residents, nationally, who have demonstrated leadership ability, excel in community involvement and/or social commitment, and have exemplary patient care and interpersonal relationships.

Dr. Blaszczak, who is steadfast in her dedication to academic family medicine, noted, “I am very interested in medical education and teaching, I have met with Dr. Kent Sheets, on a monthly basis during my residency to lay the foundation for my development as an educator. Our sessions have included reflection on teaching experiences, basics of teaching and learning theory, networking with mentors within the field, and discussion of future projects. I seek out opportunities to teach in the medical school, join committees that address issues for which I am passionate, meet with mentors who challenge me, and ask members of Ypsilanti Health Center how I can improve my patient care.”

“We are so thrilled that Dr. Blaszczak is a member of our team. She’s a passionate educator, a dedicated leader, an astute clinician, and a wonderful team member. She makes us proud, and we’re so glad that the AAFP is recognizing her work,” added Jean H.C. Wong, M.D., assistant professor and residency program director.

Dr. Blaszczak was honored at an awards ceremony at the AAFP Family Medicine Experience yesterday in New Orleans, La.

Congratulations, Dr. Blaszczak!
