Dr. Jones to lead family medicine medical student education programs

Elizabeth K. Jones, M.D., Associate Professor, has been named Director of Medical Student Education and Clerkship Director.

Dr. Jones brings a wealth of expertise to this role. She previously served as the assistant clerkship director and co-director of the Family Medicine Residency Preparation Course. Her passion for medical student education developed as a long-time Doctoring Course faculty member. Her leadership experience also includes serving as medical director of the Livonia Health Center for four years, including overseeing its opening in 2014.

Rodgers, M.D., the George A. Dean, M.D. Chair of Family Medicine. 

A member of the department’s DE&I Committee, Dr. Jones has a personal interest in how to evaluate and intervene in educational efforts in order to promote equity for our learners and patients.

Dr. Jones is a 2011 graduate of U-M’s family medicine residency program and she completed an Academic Medicine Fellowship in 2012. She completed medical school at Wayne State University. 

Dr. Jones succeeds Joel J. Heidelbaugh, M.D.,  FAAFP, FACG, Professor of Family Medicine and Urology, who has led family medicine’s medical education program for seven years and the family medicine clerkship for 17 years.

“Dr. Heidelbaugh’s extraordinary service at the department, institution, state, and national level are simply exceptional.  We thank him for his dedicated and steadfast leadership and have deep gratitude for his many years of excellent service to our students and faculty educators,” said Dr. Rodgers.
