Assessing the pros and cons of peanut OIT

1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Via Zoom

The first-ever federally approved treatment for peanut allergy, Palforzia, is now in allergy clinics nationwide.  While not a cure, the gradual desensitization process can help patients age 4-17 tolerate enough peanut protein to avoid life-threatening reactions.  However,  protocol also requires frequent visits to the clinic, adherence to a daily dosing schedule and the ingestion of feared peanut protein -- commitments that many families may hesitate to make.  Food allergy social worker Kim Menzel and Dr. Georgiana Sanders of the U-M Food Allergy Clinic will discuss what patients and caregivers should consider, and how to cope with oral immunotherapy qualms.
