The Global Health Equity Executive Board presents Nora Krinitsky from the Prison Creative Arts Project.

 

Nora Krinitsky is a historian of United States urban history, African American history, and the history of the carceral system and policing. She received her PhD from the Department of History at the University of Michigan in 2017. She is currently a lecturer in the Residential College at the University of Michigan where she teaches courses on criminal justice, social movements, urban history, and race relations. She is also the interim director of the Prison Creative Arts Project, a University organization that facilitates creative arts programs in Michigan prisons including weekly arts programming, an annual literary review, and an annual exhibition of art. Finally, she is also the project director of the Carceral State Project, which is an interdisciplinary research initiative that examines issues of criminalization, incarceration, surveillance, and policing. Throughout all her roles, her foremost priority is the application of research and knowledge for social justice and liberation.
