UMHS-PUHSC Joint Institute Mourns the Loss of Chines Nephrology Pioneer

The UMHS-PUHSC Joint Institute lost a long-time friend and colleague in December 2014 when Dr. Haiyan Wang passed away. Dr. Wang was Professor and Chair of Renal Medicine at Peking University Health Science Center First Hospital and co-Principal Investigator of the Joint Institute renal disease program.  Often called the "Mother of Chinese nephrology," Dr. Wang began her career as a nephrologist in 1959, right after graduating from Beijing Medical College. Following the Cultural Revolution, she was one of the first doctors to be trained abroad under a programme sponsored by the Chinese Government and spent nearly three years at the University of California, Los Angeles.

The Lancet featured an obituary on Dr. Wang in its February 2015 issue.  You can read more about the Joint Institute and its research programs here.
