University of Michigan Medical School students, Mayra Gomez, James Hammond, and Bill Mallett, were among the participants of the first international Medical Winter School offered by the University of São Paulo Faculty of Medicine (FMUSP).

Bill Mallett, who will be an M2 in the fall, spent most of the summer in Brazil as part of a Global REACH faculty-led trip under the mentorship of Dr. Michele Heisler. Mayra Gomez traveled to Brazil from Colombia where she has been participating in a faculty-led trip mentored by Dr. John Piette.  Mr. Hammond traveled to Brazil specifically to participate in the Winter School.

The main mission of the FMUSP is to provide assistance to education, teaching, research, and extramural extension with emphasis on multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional approaches.

  •  FMUSP designed comprehensive two-week courses on 5 different topics addressing students from various backgrounds, from college students to post-doc fellows
  • 52 students from 18 countries were invited to participate in the inaugural program
