New Publication Highlights Joint Institute Partnership

An article written by leaders of the Joint Institute for Translational and Clinical Research (JI) has been Epublished ahead of print in Academic Medicine.  The article highlights several significant outcomes since the University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) and the Peking University Health Science Center (PUHSC) each contributed several million dollars to establish the JI in 2010.

The Joint Institute for Translational and Clinical Research is a unique partnership between the UMHS and PUHSC. It sponsors high-impact collaborative research that leverages the unique strengths of each institution to advance global health. The JI research programs currently focus on four pervasive medical conditions: cardiovascular disease, liver disease, pulmonary disease, and renal disease. In each of these areas, panels of experts from both universities are conducting clinical and translational research studies. Three infrastructure 'cores' support both the administrative and research aspects of the JI: Biorepository and Biomedical Informatics Core, Collaboration Core, and the IRB and Human Protection Core. Through this partnership, UMHS and PUHSC hope to enable scientists to translate basic research more quickly and efficiently into medical practice and improve outcomes for patients in the US, in China, and around the world.
