Translational and clinical research focused in understanding the mechanisms of chronic diabetic complications, particularly of diabetic peripheral neuropathy and cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy, and to understand their role in the development of the high cardiovascular risk complicating diabetes; and novel treatment strategies for type 1 and type 2 diabetes, prevention of disease progression, the role of oral health in diabetes complications, and promoting the best of care for patients with diabetes worldwide.
