How do genetic networks influence evolutionary trajectories? Does network structure constrain or enable adaptive evolution? A highly connected network can mean that one mutation can influence many other genes, or be highly pleiotropic. My work in the Wittkopp Lab focuses on understanding the relationship between the pleiotropic effects of regulatory mutations and fitness, using yeast as a model system.
