This weekend marked Juneteenth, which celebrates the emancipation of enslaved individuals in the United States. As a belated recognition of Juneteenth, we thought we could watch and discuss the movie "13th", which discusses how elements of slavery are reflected and perpetuated via the US prison system. The film is available for free on both Netflix and Youtube. To help make the most of our meeting, we ask everyone to watch the film and come ready to discuss.
Additionally, we highly encourage everyone to watch this brief video explaining the significance of Juneteenth to prepare for our discussion.
Our first meeting will take place Tuesday, June 29th from 4-5pm via zoom. Please join via this zoom link: https://umich.zoom.us/j/93862485391.
