Biography
Vibha Lama, MD, MS, Henry Sewall Research Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, earned her medical degree from Dayanand Medical College and completed residencies at Dayanand Medical College in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Wayne State University in Internal Medicine. Dr. Lama completed her pulmonary and critical care fellowship here at Michigan Medicine and subsequently joined the faculty in 2002.
Research Interests
Dr. Lama’s research focuses on fibrosis pathways in the lung that is common to several pulmonary conditions. She is an expert on the mesenchymal cell and its fibrogenic transformation regarding lung transplants. Dr. Lama holds NIH and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation grants, as well as performs clinical trials related to anti-fibrotic compounds. Dr. Lama has published 75 peer-reviewed articles in her field. These include first and senior-authored papers in Journal of Biological Chemistry, JCI Insight, JCI, American J Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine, American J Pathology, Stem Cells, J Immunology, among others. She is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
