About Us

Research Themes

The Center’s overarching goal to investigate cell and organ communication is supported by three central research themes to understand mechanisms regulating GI homeostasis and disorders and how these processes are integrated with environmental and microbial interactions:

  1. Cell fate, plasticity and transformation
  2. Systemic, cellular and nutrient metabolism
  3. Immune and inflammatory responses to host-environment-microbial interactions

Clinical Focus Areas

To emphasize disease relevance and the translation of our Research Themes to human disease, we have organized the research base into three parallel clinical focus areas:

  1. Diseases related to tissue inflammation and repair
  2. Diseases of metaplastic, dysplastic and cell transformation
  3. Diseases related to abnormal gut-brain axis (pain, dysmotility and metabolic disorders)
