Target Audience

This half-day course is intended for primary care physicians, internal medicine physicians, endocrinologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, diabetes educators, registered dietitians, diabetic nurses, residents in internal medicine, endocrinology fellows, and other health care providers who care for patients with diabetes and prediabetes.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this conference, participants will be able to:

• apply the most recent evidence-based findings and current guidelines to optimize glucose, and control risk factors in the management of patients with type 2 diabetes.
• understand the use of novel insulins and their indications.
• understand facts and best strategies for the use of insulin pumps and glucose sensors in daily practice.
• manage diabetes in post-transplant patients and in patients with chronic liver disease.
• counsel their patients on the management of diabetes before and during pregnancy.
• enhance practical skills needed to timely diagnose diabetes complications with a cost-effective approach.
• apply effective prevention and treatment options for chronic diabetes complications and foot complications in patients with diabetes.
• Appreciate the use of current advanced technology; from new blood glucose self- monitoring devices, continuous glucose sensors, insulin pumps, and their interface to smart phone apps, cars’ GPS and web-based platforms that support cost-effective, remote strategies to aid in the delivery of diabetes care and to involve patients in making guided self-care management decisions.

Registration Information

You are encouraged to register as soon as you are certain of attending, as we cannot guarantee educational materials for applicants who are not preregistered and prepaid by Friday, April 13, 2018. Payment must accompany registration. Checks should be made payable to the University of Michigan in U.S. currency. Payments by American Express, Discover, MasterCard or Visa are also accepted. The registration rate includes continental breakfast, coffee service, lunch, and course materials for participants.

Cancellation Policy

An administrative fee of $50 will be deducted from your registration payment. Refund requests must be received in writing, no later than Friday, April 13, 2018. No refunds will be made thereafter.

Course Syllabus

An electronic syllabus will be available to download during and a week after the course. The URL will be provided at the course. In addition, a printed syllabus can be purchased for an additional fee of $15. The printed syllabus must be purchased no later than Friday, April 13, 2018.

Accreditation & Credit Designation

The University of Michigan Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Michigan Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation

ABIM MOC Credit

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
