Residency Program

200 Years of Educational Excellence

Welcome to the Department of Internal Medicine Residency Program. Our program's success is built upon the University of Michigan's strong educational foundation established in 1817.

Dr. Del Valle

"Our greatest strength is our residents. We have been fortunate to attract talented residents who, in addition to having performed in outstanding fashion academically, have tremendous qualities as individuals." - John Del Valle, MD

Our program offers superb clinical and research training in all areas of internal medicine. Learn about all the experiences our program offers and how we will guide and support you on your path to medical excellence.

Residents in our Categorical Internal Medicine Program can elect to participate in our Primary Care Track, and may join this track in their first, second, or third year of residency training.

Physician Scientist Program

The Physician Scientist Training Program (PSTP) is offered as an option for qualified candidates to receive training in the Internal Medicine Program for two years, followed by clinical and research training in a fellowship program.
