Work Performance

Angie Glazier is as an Administrative Assistant in the division of Hematology and Oncology. She provides a very high level of support to the faculty and to our division leadership. Anything that is assigned to Angie we all know will be done with a great amount of attention and detail. Angie has served on recruitment teams, is an MHealthy Champion, serves on our division IMPOWER Council as a staff representative and has provided support and resources for various DEI discussions related to anti-racism education for our team. Angie has really stood out in her efforts as the Michigan Mittens project lead.

Angie has taken this program to new heights, and I couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishments. She structured the mittens team into a solid functioning committee that she has established with defining roles, term limits and accountability for the members who join the team and creation of a team charter. She had a strategic vision of partnering with corporate sponsors and has worked with the necessary teams at Michigan Medicine to get turn this vision into a reality and we are making great momentum as a team thanks to Angie’s persistence and willingness to explore new and out of the box ideas.

Angie is one of the most professional, humble, and articulate administrative professionals that I have ever worked with, and she honestly strengthens the team with her calm, professional, and objective demeanor. She is always willing to step in at a moment’s notice and follows through with the utmost care, objectivity, detail, and professionalism.

Leadership

Angie serves as the project lead for Michigan Mittens. Examples of leadership in this program include:

Created a team charter:
  • Set clear expectations by formalizing a committee with term limits and defined roles
  • Partnered with development and corporate sponsorships to take the program to the next level
  • Actively recruits new members/volunteers
  • Leads monthly team meetings
  • Provides leadership of committee volunteers to procure materials, sewing teams, stuffing, and fundraising

Angie serves on the division IMPOWER Council as a staff member. She is very active and organized in this committee so much that the council leads have asked her for additional resources and support.

Angie is the MHealthy Champion for our division. She actively shares resources that assist faculty and staff with resources to improve wellness. She started a weekly ‘coffee chat’ for the administrative team which has helped the team to remain connected while working in a hybrid/remote space. This has been a key component to keeping the team connected outside of regular meetings to discuss business matters.

Angie joined the administrative team for a book club to discuss anti-racism efforts which has been a springboard for her to join the IMPOWER council. She provided a great perspective and a viewpoint that challenged others to think about things in a different way. Angie had many suggestions for books, movies and additional education material that we used for discussion and suggested to other teams.

Customer Service

Angie is well respected amongst her peers and leaders within the division. She carries herself in a way that pushes others to perform at a higher level. She is willing to take on any task assigned no matter how complex or how busy she is and follows through with excellence. A recent example of customer service excellence is when Angie responded to a request sent to the administrative team for urgent request for support which is outside of her area of responsibility. Angie as always, is the first to respond to these types of requests and lend support. The request was to set up multiple interviews with multiple providers in our hematology consult service. Angie followed through with this detailed task which was quite complex and matrixed. As a result, the interview committee team was efficiently supported and went out of their way to recognize how easy she made the process for them.

During the pandemic, Angie has established a weekly coffee chat for the admin team of 11. This was key in keeping the group together during an unprecedented time. Angie’s focus was to maintain the comradery amongst the team by keeping everyone connected for a short period of time each week.

Additionally, Angie supports her faculty in a way that is unmatched compared to her peers. The faculty assigned to her give her exemplary unsolicited praise. She goes out of her way to understand the needs of those supports in a way that surpasses what’s expected of her. Faculty who are not assigned Angie as an admin are asking to be assigned to her or to someone with similar strengths.

Process Improvement

The Michigan Mittens project hands down. The Michigan Mittens program is a stocking in the shape of a mitten filled with comfort and care items that are given to patients undergoing infusion treatments during the holiday season. Angie has volunteered hours outside of work to make the program what is today. As an example, during the pandemic when we were unable to complete the project at the Cancer Center, Angie solicited volunteers and we were able to safely put this work together in an alternate location. This required a great deal of detailed logistical support. Angie met volunteers to hand off items and kept everything moving in a way that was seamless despite of a global pandemic happening in the periphery. Angie has a work smarter not harder mentality, and she has greatly improved the Michigan Mittens service project. By formalizing roles and term limits, this has truly taken the program to a new level and has helped to reduce burnout for the volunteers involved. She has worked closely with development, fundraising to automate the program as much as possible. For instance, the committee used to solicit fundraising efforts by a red kettle approach, however, Angie has made giving to the cause much easier by the creation of QR codes on program deliverables and advertising on official social media channels.

Angie also improves many processes within the confines of our team. She has recently outlined and educated the team on video recording conferences to include editing to assist faculty with conference management. Previously, the teams were handling conferences in different ways. This ensures a streamlined approach, and everything is stored in the same place and is easily accessible to our faculty.
