Jake is a first year master’s student in Biomedical Engineering. He has wanted to become a doctor ever since he started working as a Nursing Assistant the summer after high school. The four years he spent taking care of patients, while earning his bachelor’s in biomedical engineering from Wayne State University, solidified that dream. After he finishes his master’s degree, he will be applying to medical schools where he can continue to work with patients and participate in research. He realized his love for research while working for the Smart Sensors and Integrated Microsystems Lab at Wayne State, where he conducted experiments that utilize Raman spectroscopy to detect pathogens in biological samples. During his master’s, he will also be doing research focused on creating/optimizing artificial lung devices. Jake believes he could use the principles of precision health not only in his future research, but also by utilizing a more personalized approach in patient care.
