Biography
Joel Kilpatrick is a master’s student in the Healthcare Infrastructures and Learning Systems Program. He received an emergency medical technician certificate and worked in a Metropolitan Detroit hospital’s emergency department while obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Madonna University. Upon graduating, Joel worked in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and the Cardiovascular Center (CVC) PeriAnesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at the University of Michigan Health. After providing direct patient care as a nurse, Joel became the Clinical Nurse Manager in the CVC PACU. In his role within nursing administration at the University of Michigan Health, he developed a passion for patient safety and quality improvement.
Joel also worked in Risk Management as a Clinical Risk Management Consultant and currently is a Patient Safety Specialist at Michigan Medicine where he facilitates root cause analysis with multidisciplinary teams helping to initiate changes identified during patient safety event reviews.
Joel notes: I have a wonderful and amazing wife. We have three terrific boys who bring us so much joy. We love to travel, especially around New England.
