Areas of Interest
Research and scholarly interests: I am interested in improving the diagnosis-based problem list in the electronic medical record. My hypothesis is that for outpatient visits, ranking the problems by acuity and mortality will help the clinician and the patient reach a mutual understanding of the short-term and long term threats to health. I am working on improving the quality of the problem list with measurable items like morbid obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.
Subject-matter expertise: Diagnosis based problem lists in the electronic health record, medical oncology, chemotherapy
Other professional highlights: I am the medical director of the multidisciplinary colorectal clinic, and I actively lead therapeutic clinical trials at the University of Michigan and in cooperation with the Southwest Oncology Group, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Institute. I am active enrolling patients in the Organ Preservation of Rectal Adenocarcinoma clinical trial, which aims to eliminate the need for surgery for some patients with rectal cancer.
