Maria Flores is the Staffing and Work Culture Specialist, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Lead at the University of Michigan Medical School’s Department of Learning Health Sciences (DLHS). In her role, she provides comprehensive guidance and support to our team’s hiring managers on all staff and student hiring. Her expertise includes; hiring, onboarding, payroll, as well as compliance. As DEI Lead, and in partnership with the Associate Chair for DEI, she provides strategic guidance, and leads programming on matters of diversity, equity and inclusion across the department.
Prior to her current role, she was Executive Assistant to Dr. Friedman, Chair of DLHS. Before joining DLHS, she was a legal assistant at an immigration law firm where, under the supervision of an attorney, she managed a range of complex legal matters ranging from naturalization applications to court cases. Before then she designed and carried out original research projects, and policy analysis on DEI related topics. An honors graduate of the University of Michigan, she is interested in inclusive leadership practices, community building and health equity matters.
Outside of work, Maria enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering in matters pertaining to health equity.
