Biography

Dr. Bowersox is a board-certified clinical psychologist whose work has focused improving care for Veteran patients with serious mental illness (SMI) through the use of VA’s national administrative data resources. Within the Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention’s Serious Mental Illness Treatment Resource and Evaluation Center (SMITREC), he is the Lead Evaluator for the National Psychosis Registry (NPR) workgroup, overseeing the team which manages a national administrative dataset related to the care of Veteran patients with SMI. The NPR is used to create SMI quality metrics, evaluations of areas of care concern for SMI Veterans, and the NPR dashboard which provides summary information for sites to support quality improvement efforts focusing on their SMI Veterans. The NPR dashboard is also used to support programs such as the Early Psychosis Intervention Coordination (EPIC) teams program. Dr. Bowersox also serves as the Training Director for SMITREC’s Advanced Fellowship Program in Mental Health Research and Treatment.

Dr. Bowersox is also the Director of the QUERI Center for Evaluation and Implementation Resources (CEIR). CEIR was launched in 2017 to serve as VA’s centralized resource for best practices related to program evaluation and implementation science. CEIR provides consultation to quality improvement projects on topics related to methods, funding, collaborators, and dissemination efforts. Dr. Bowersox is an investigator within the Ann Arbor HSRD Center for Clinical Management Research and the University of Michigan Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation and an Associate Professor at the University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry.
