Fast Facts: Exercise & Brain Health

The Details:

We have found that blood pressure, BMI (body mass index) and fat around the waist are all linked to cognitive decline.

Exercise increases the birth of stem cells, known as neurogenesis.

Exercise increases the release of neurotransmitters, including acetylcholine, which is deficient in Alzheimer’s patients.

Exercise increases glucose uptake in the brain.  This is especially important for Alzheimer’s patients because studies show much lower glucose uptake in their brains versus healthy brains.
