Dr. Stephen Goutman, director of the Michigan Medicine Pranger ALS Clinic, was a special guest on the University of Michigan Hockey Radio Show this week. Inspired by former Wolverine Scott Matzka, the U-M hockey team has hosted an annual ALS Awareness Game (#IceALS) in each of the previous four years. It could not take place this year due to COVID-19.
Dr. Goutman joined Al Randall, voice of the U-M hockey team, to talk about the recent clinical trials that have shown promising results in the battle to slow or stop ALS progression. Dr. Goutman also discussed the environmental concerns that are associated with ALS, especially in Michigan. Lastly, he illustrated the impact of Scott Pranger's endowment gift to the clinic, and shared how the multidisciplinary team cares for and improves the quality of life for ALS patients and their families.
