The Board of Regents has approved the appointment of Stephan F. Taylor, M.D., as interim chair of the Department of Psychiatry in the Medical School, effective October 1.
Taylor is the Albert J. Silverman, M.D., C.M., Research Professor of Psychiatric Disorders and a professor of psychiatry. He also is associate chair for research and regulatory affairs in the department, and director of the Residency Research Track Training Program and Program for Risk Evaluation and Prevention. He has served as associate chair of the Institutional Review Board for the Medical School since 2008 and medical director of psychiatry since 2022.
Taylor earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. He completed residency training and a research fellowship at the University of Michigan. He joined the U-M faculty in 1993 as a lecturer and was promoted to assistant professor in 1995, associate professor in 2003, and professor in 2010.
Taylor’s research uses brain imaging, brain stimulation, and behavioral techniques to study psychosis, particularly early psychosis, and to develop and improve treatments for psychiatric disorders.
