MNI is proud to announce that affiliate member Dr. George A. Mashour has been appointed the interim Executive Vice Dean for Academic Affairs (EVDAA) for the University of Michigan Medical School, effective January 1, 2025. This appointment was approved by the U-M Board of Regents on December 5. In addition to his new role as EVDAA, Dr. Mashour will also serve as the interim Chief Academic Officer (CAO) for Michigan Medicine.
Dr. Mashour has served as the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Faculty Development since May 2024. Prior to that, he chaired the Department of Anesthesiology and held the Robert B. Sweet Professorship from 2019-24. He founded the Michigan Psychedelic Center in 2022 and the Center for Consciousness Science in 2014 and has held leadership roles as Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research and Director of the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research.
Dr. Mashour is an esteemed anesthesiologist and NIH-funded neuroscientist, internationally recognized for his research on consciousness. His work spans computational models, experimental studies, translational research, and clinical investigations, with a focus on multidisciplinary approaches to studying consciousness and perioperative neurologic outcomes.
