Biography

My primary research interests include but are not limited to the following:

-Investigating how metabolic fuels (carbohydrates and fatty acids) are used to generate chemical energy to drive the mechanical and electrical functions of the heart.

-Examining the role of calcium in mitochondrial metabolism and investigating how calcium signaling influences oxidation of carbohydrates and fatty acids in the heart.

-Mathematical modeling of Ca2+ dynamics/signaling in mitochondria and cells.

-Studying the response of normal and ischemic cardiac tissue to electrical stimulation.
