Movement Disorders Training Program

We are proud to offer a two year, comprehensive movement disorders training program that draws from a wealth of clinical, research and educational opportunities made available here at the university.

While our program is largely tailored to the needs our trainees, the first year is commonly dedicated to providing foundational experiences drawing from a breadth and depth of clinical exposures. This includes opportunities within the general movement disorders clinics at both the university hospital and the Ann Arbor VA, in addition to concentrated subspecialty clinics for deep brain stimulation, botulinum toxin injection, multi-disciplinary ataxia and atypical parkinsonian disorders. Additional clinical experiences unique to our program include rotations within the cognitive disorders, neurogenetics, pediatric movement disorders, normal pressure hydrocephalus, and Wilson’s Disease clinics.

The second year is truly customized to the burgeoning academic pursuits of the trainee, with more time allotted to focus on scholarly work and professional development. Prior trainees have gone on to further advance their subspecialty clinical expertise, enroll in medical educator programs, become engrossed in the methodology of clinical trials, or pursue extramural grant funding for their research during this time. For those trainees interested in pursuing careers as researchers, including bench and clinical research, training opportunities focusing on research are available under the direction of individual movement disorders faculty

Applications for the movement disorders training program may be submitted through SFMatch and should include your CV, a personal statement, and three letters of recommendation.

You must be a United States citizen, permanent resident (green card holder), or have a J-1 visa sponsored through ECFMG. We unfortunately do not sponsor any other visas.
