Assistant Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics
Bhooma Aravamuthan, M.D., DPhil is an Assistant Professor, pediatric movement disorders specialist, and neuroscientist in the Division of Pediatric Neurology at the Washington University School of Medicine and the Cerebral Palsy Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She completed her research doctorate at the University of Oxford in England, medical school and pediatrics residency at Washington University in St. Louis, and child neurology and movement disorders fellowships at Boston Children’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital before returning to Wash U as faculty. She co-founded and co-directs the Child Neurology Society Cerebral Palsy Special Interest Group, co-leads the Cerebral Palsy Research Network Committees on Dystonia Research and Dystonia Quality Improvement, and is Chair-Elect of the American Academy of Neurology Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Section. Her translational research focus is on dystonia pathophysiology following neonatal brain injury, has received junior investigator recognition from the Child Neurology Society and American Neurological Association, and has been funded by the National Child Neurology Career Development Program K12 Award and a K08 Award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. She is also an active advocate for access to cerebral palsy diagnosis and neurological screening across the lifespan and has spoken on these topics via webinars for national community-focused organizations.
