The 4th Annual Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K Walk/Run took place Saturday, May 13 at Kensington Metro Park. The “survivor speaker” for this year’s event was brain tumor survivor and U-M Neurosurgery patient Kat Rice.
Prior to the event, Kat was featured on Fox 2 News, in a segment called “Amy’s Angels.” She was interviewed by Good Day anchor Amy Andrews and shared details about the event, as well as her survival story. As she shares in the Fox 2 interview, Kat attributes her successful outcome, recovery, and transition post-surgery to the her U-M neurosurgery team, led by Dr. Hervey-Jumper, and to the Functional Wellness Initiative and Clinic, which helped her navigate the complexities of the system while focusing on fighting her second brain tumor.
