Biography
Thomas Schermerhorn, M.D. was born and raised in Kalamazoo, MI. He received his undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. After serving in the U.S. Army Infantry, Dr. Schermerhorn received his medical degree from Wayne State University. He then completed a neurological surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Schermerhorn obtained sub-specialty training in complex spine surgery at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC.
After completing his training, Dr. Schermerhorn established a neurosurgery practice with Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI. He joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2012. In addition to a comprehensive adult neurosurgical practice, Dr. Schermerhorn's clinical focus is on the surgical treatment of degenerative and traumatic spinal disorders and spinal oncology. He is board certified in neurological surgery.
